Local Campaigns 2008
28th February 2008: 6 Billion Ways to Save the Planet

29th November 2008: Fuel Poverty Stunt, Hackney
16th August 2008: Shoreditch Festival, Shoreditch
We had a very successful stall and we had many people signing the Biofuels postcards. The day ended with a brilliant social evening at Tom's house!
8th June 2008: Stokefest, Clissold Park, Stoke Newington
Most members of the group helped on the FOE stall at some time in the day. We got 230 Biofuels postcards and 63 Big Ask postcards signed, and 33 new members signed up. The orangutang costume was ‘great but too hot for the summer’.
22nd April 2008: The Big Climate Meeting
Several members participated at a lively debate on the Government's new Climate Change Law in Central London. The event was organised by The Big Ask, Friends of the Earth's climate campaign and I Count, the campaign of the Stop Climate Chaos coalitionat Friends Meeting House, Euston, London. Speakers:
With Hilary Benn (Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs)
Peter Ainsworth (Shadow secretary of state for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs)
Steve Webb (Liberal Democrat Spokesman for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs)
Tony Juniper (TBC)
5th April 2008: Big Ask day of Action
Members dressed up as air stewardesses, Gordon Brown and a plane and were photographed with a tanned George Galloway on Tower Bridge before being photographed again on the steps of Hackney Town Hall.
29th March 2008: Poison and Antidote.
Members helped run a Friends of the Earth stall at this event which was organised by national FoE (www.foe.co.uk/resource/press_releases/arts_and_environment_combi_14022008.html)
23rd February 2008: general FoE awareness-raising stall on Roman Road
The stall went really well on Saturday many thanks to all that came. We got 64 Big Ask postcards signed and 11 peeps signed up to the email list! Woo! It was an interesting mix of people and bizarre conversations: one girl told me that her geography teacher says the oceans are producing more carbon than all of civilisation put together.
26 January 2008: Stunt/ action outside Hackney Town Hall with Green councillor Mischa B
Seven of us today were at the stunt action outside Hackney Town Hall with green Councillor Misha B. We wanted to show our opposition to the Government proposals to change planning rules to make it easier for major developments such as incinerators, airports and major roads to be built. The Government proposals would prevent people from having a meaningful say in person at inquiries into how their area is developed and would cause a surge in carbon intensive developments that would contribute to dangerous climate change. The local press was present at the event.
19 January 2008: Day of action at Broadway Market on the Planning Reform bill
65 postcards were signed which was a great achievement considering the bad weather. JC, JF, NL and KP had taken part. It had been useful to share a gazebo with Greenpeace, who were there campaigning against Heathrow expansion.
